Meeting in Person Vs. Virtually

Meeting in Person Vs. Virtually

By: Bethesda Business BNI  |  Posted: October 25, 2021

Dear BNI Bethesda Business Members,
As you know, we have been grappling with the issue of whether to return to in-person meetings or whether to stay virtual.

As the Leadership has tried to understand all the options and their potential ramifications, we have found that this issue is even more complex than we had originally thought. BNI has certain policies, members have differing concerns, local Government has regulations, and we, as a voluntary group, have limitations on what we can require of members.

It has become clear that the option most of us want, to meet using our current hybrid format (simultaneously in-person and virtually) is not an option we are allowed to continue. In choosing between fully virtual vs. fully in-person, the survey results are mixed but lean in favor of meeting in person. Respecting the will of the majority, while also recognizing the current medical concerns of our members, our intention is to meet in person starting in the new year and continue meeting virtually through December. This timeline will allow a few things to happen. 1) We can pin down a new, permanent location for in-person meetings, whether that means continuing at the Hilton or at another venue. 2) Perhaps the infection rates will decline to an extent where all members can safely and comfortably be present. 3) If infection rates are reduced, mask mandates may be lifted.

This has been a difficult time for all of us and Leadership has been consistent in its belief that each member must navigate this situation as they see fit. We respect each member's personal choices and value each member as part of this great group.

Please feel free to reach out to anyone in the Membership Committee, Sara or Dan should you have questions or need clarification on any issue.

Thank you as always to your commitment to the group and for your contributions.
